Which nano-carbon product should we focus on in the next EPA Nanomaterial Case Study?

Take 5 Minutes to Give Us Your Viewpoint!

    Background:

ORD's National Center for Environmental Assessment has been developing a series of case studies of selected nanomaterials as part of an effort to develop a nanomaterials comprehensive environmental assessment research strategy. Previously, we have developed case studies on: 1) nano-Titanium dioxide in drinking water disinfectant and sunscreen (Nano-TiO2 Case Studies), and 2) nanosilver in disinfectant spray (Nano-Ag Case Study).

We’d like your help in choosing a nano-carbon product to use for the next case study. Between August 22nd and 31st please provide input on the five candidate products:

  • Carbon nanofibers in cement/concrete

  • Carbon nanotubes (multi-walled) in flame-retardant coatings & composites

  • Carbon nanotubes (multi-walled) in rubber tires

  • Carbon nanotubes (single-walled) in textiles

  • Nanocrystalline cellulose in biodegradable packing

    Process:

You have two poker chips to support the selection of one or two products for this next case study. Underneath "Recent Ideas" below, you'll find a link to a "Suitability at a Glance Table" for each candidate that includes information on data availability and other factors, such as the candidate's relevance to EPA's regulatory and policy interest, that would be useful to consider in casting your poker chips. Using the "Manage Chips" buttons below, you can allocate 2 poker chips to one product or 1 poker chip each to two different products that you feel are equally suitable.

    Participation:

Interactive sites such as this one rely on input from each individual to generate a stimulating discussion and flesh out why a particular product is the best choice for the next case study. Please use the comment section below each product description to tell us why you selected one product versus another and check back throughout the week to read and respond to others' comments.

The NCEA Nano Team will try to answer any questions you have along the way, but your input will help Representatives of Agency Labs, Centers and Regions choose one to two candidates in the next step of the selection process!

    Additional Information:

For an overview of each candidate see the table linked below, but note that additional information on each candidate is included in its respective "Suitability at a Glance Table" (see links under "Recent Ideas below").
